I Think I Found a Job Hack
I found a neat "job hack" to search for jobs on LinkedIn. Many of you might have heard of it already, so I might be late to the party but it's too good not to share!
The "Bad Ending"
Let's look at the average Joe's experience. He logs into LinkedIn, clicks the Jobs section, and starts searching.
The standard job section (as seen above) isn't actually that helpful. Everything feels cluttered and oversaturated like watching Cocomelon the second you wake up.
The Issues:
- Worthless Filters: The default filters are often non-existent or ineffective.
- Promoted Overload: Half the openings are "Promoted" posts that often don't align with your specific experience or concentration.
The "Good Ending"
Here is the secret: If you look at your URL after clicking "Jobs," it usually looks like this:
https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/collections/a-random-concentration/?currentJobId=some-number
The Fix: Change that useless URL to this:
https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/search/
The Difference:
- Cleaner Interface: The page is significantly easier to browse.
- Better Filtering: You get a full suite of filtering options above the job list.
- Less Noise: Drastically fewer "Promoted" jobs cluttering your feed.
- Streamlined: Itβs a much more direct approach to job hunting.
The "Even Better Ending"
We can refine that URL even further. For the full technical breakdown, you can read LinkedIn Job Hacks. If you're feeling lazy, here is the "TL;DR" version:
"What if I told you that one small tweak to your LinkedIn search URL could turn you into a job hunting ninja? Welcome to the land of SECONDS."
The 3-Step URL Hack
- Run a job search as usual (e.g., "Sales Operations" in your location).
- Set the Date Posted filter to "Past 24 hours."
- Look for
f_TPR=r86400in the URL. That number represents seconds (86400 = 24 hours).
By combining our clean URL with the time parameter, we get a "Power URL":
https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/search/?f_TPR=r3600 (This shows jobs posted in the last hour!)
Time Cheat Sheet
Use the values below to modify the f_TPR=r parameter in your URL to suit your needs:
| Seconds | Time Description | URL Parameter |
|---|---|---|
| 604800 | 1 week | f_TPR=r604800 |
| 86400 | 24 hours (1 day) | f_TPR=r86400 |
| 43200 | 12 hours | f_TPR=r43200 |
| 18000 | 5 hours | f_TPR=r18000 |
| 7200 | 2 hours | f_TPR=r7200 |
| 3600 | 1 hour | f_TPR=r3600 |
| 1800 | 30 minutes | f_TPR=r1800 |
| 900 | 15 minutes | f_TPR=r900 |
| 60 | 1 minute | f_TPR=r60 |
Final Thoughts
This method is like using a power up in a video game. I can't guarantee you'll get the job, but I can guarantee you'll find better opportunities faster. Whether you win or lose the game still depends on how you play!
Good luck with the hunt!
