Squirrels yearn for onions?
Today was an average day, I did a run for groceries from Walmart with onions being the main requirement. After I parked my car, I began carrying the shopping bags back to my home with the help of my friend but then an interesting thing happened! I saw a squirrel come running towards me (I was holding an onion bag) and jumped on the onion bag and I think it did a taste test. Well, the result being a very big seal of No-Approval. The squirrels didn't like the onions. Is it because squirrels don't eat onions? or do they just want to take a small bite? I'm not sure.
A small research into the topic
I did a small google search on this topic, and it sounds like squirrels absolutely despise onions. It is quite natural of them. I got to know about this info from this website which stated
Squirrels generally do not eat onions or garlic. Although both onions and garlic are harmless to squirrels, they are disliked by a majority of these animals due to their strong flavor. The taste of onions and garlic is too strong for squirrels, making them unappealing and leaving them with little incentive to consume them.
This is an interest rabbit hole I stumbled across. Maybe this information is useless and a waste of time, but staying indoors for a long period of time generally makes you concentrate on little things that can be utterly useless to know. But I found this interesting to share.
Buy hey, if you want to deter squirrels from your yard, you now know how :)
